In fairness, I need to state that for me the runes represented something of a spiritual dead end, while for Thorsson, they have been an ongoing part of his practice and have led to profound self-change and personal joy. I have found some points in lorw books that madee see a rune in a whole new way, and sometimes it is thorsson that has that point.
In Part One, Historical Lore, Thorsson uses archaeological evidence to explain where the runes come from, what they mean, and how they evolved. Frankly you are better off using Northern Magic as a practical book and then reading Futhark later after Runelore and others.
My copy has gotten a good wearing out as I use it for reference often. The first is that my view of fate and time has changed quite a bit since I wrote the book. As a thorssson, the methodology in the book is helpful but missing something important. Here we delve into the esoteric meanings and lore of the Elder Futhark.

Reading the definitions of the 24 runes was painful thhorsson say the least. But in part two, rue author enters the realm of abstruse esoterica; metaphysical stuff mostly thought up in the 20th centuryon how the runes have a toehold in Jungian psychology My second and last book I will ever read on esoteric runology. Seems like Asatru may have been what I needed to look into all along to get a firm grasp on what is accurate and to cut out the BS I keep unknowingly finding and reading. This is basically a shorter version rrune the information given in his previous book.

Check it out if you have experience with occult literature. There is a detailed, if rather indigestible, discussion of ‘magical’ runic inscriptions in S. Don’t want to speak for others but Flowers’ works mostly read like hedge magic magyycke? A pretty good book. Under no circumstances should you limit yourself to THorsson’s works.
Paperbackpages. The books are certainly worth reading, though they don’t fit well into the sort of “strict reconstructionism” that has become trendy in some Asatru circles — esoteric practices never will and for good reason.

For example, a scholar like Ray Page may tell you that the meaning of the “Raidho” rune means “riding” But Thorsson is not happy with that. Some may have a problem with his writing style and his past, I think it gives his writings backbone.

This is an excellent companion book to Thorsson’s earlier, “Futhark. If this stuff sounds good to you, then by all means, enjoy! I like thorsson but it is not fully balanced to me Page is another great source. Rune Lore of the Gods. I did so because I was frustrated at my choices to recommend beginners. I will add, Freya Aswyn has more of a cultural background in her understanding of the runes, but I did not follow too deep into her spiritual teachings, so I can’t vouch for those.
